What’s On for Secondary School Pupils at the Lumière Festival 2011!
From Monday 3rd to Sunday 9th October 2011 the third Lumière Festival will be held in the forty or so cinema and theatre halls in Greater Lyon that have expressed their desire to participate in this great festival. This increasingly successful event is dedicated to film history and is held in Lyon, the birthplace of the Lumière Cinematograph. From its creation up to the present time the festival’s objective has always been to share a heritage that is open to everyone, allowing active participation by secondary school pupils in the available sessions - retrospectives, tributes, restored copies, new issues of forgotten films, meetings with filmmakers, actors and authors…
Discovering the films and the artists
The Lumière Institute, supported by the Rhône-Alpes Region, offers you the chance of participating in this event, unique in France, and plans to reserve a quota of places for secondary school pupils and apprentices in participating halls. This will enable your pupils to discover the films, which are presented by cinema personalities. The festival village is also accessible to school pupils. It will be set up in the Lumière Institute grounds and include an exhibition area, a book and DVD shop and a restaurant … Guides will be available to assist to your pupils.
A visiting speaker for your class
Before the film showings, during the whole of September and during the festival a programme of meetings with a Lumière Institute speaker will complement these suggestions, involving discussions with the pupils on the suggested films and festival organisation. This meeting will help you to prepare your session more effectively. How may I/we participate in the 2011 Lumière Festival?
